Enviromental Services Toronto
Calibre Inspection Services conducts environmental assessments focused on mold, allergen and indoor air quality (IAQ) related issues for both residential and commercial properties. Our consultants are trained professionals and are equipped to handle all of your environmental concerns.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) involves analyzing the air inside homes, offices and workplaces to determine if the indoor air may possibly have an effect on the wellbeing and comfort of the occupants. The IAQ can encourage negative health effects on occupants when microbial impurities in the air such as mold, allergens, chemicals and bacteria are present.
Let’s not confuse good indoor air quality with good hygiene or cleanliness. A home or office environment that appears perfectly clean may have various invisible pollutants and impurities lingering in the air that can cause adverse health effects in individuals.
Common Causes of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Problems
IAQ problems result from interactions between furnishings and building materials, actions within a home or building, weather, and occupants. IAQ problems can be influenced by:
- Indoor environment - temperature and humidity levels.
- Indoor air contaminants – dust, mold. chemicals, bacteria, gases, vapors and odors.
- Inadequate outdoor air intake.
Indoor Air Contaminants
Common indoor air contaminants and their principal sources:
Carbon dioxide (CO2), tobacco smoke, perfume - from building occupants.
Asbestos, lead, dust, fiberglass, gases, including formaldehyde - from building materials.
Toxic vapors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) - from workplace cleansers, solvents, glue, pesticides and disinfectants.
Gases, vapors, odors - off-gas emissions from furniture, paints and carpets.
Dust mites – found in carpeting, mattresses, fabric and furniture.
Microbial contaminants, fungi, molds, bacteria - from wet areas, stagnant water and leaking condensate lines and pans.
- Ozone - from office photocopiers, electrical motors and electrostatic air cleaners.
Symptoms of Poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
At work people usually become aware of their symptoms after several hours and feel better after leaving the building or when they have been away from the building for a length of time such as a weekend or vacation. |

What We Do
We provide comprehensive assessments of residential, commercial and industrial property to resolve IAQ problems which involves the following aspects:
Interviews: This is conducted with property owners, occupants and or employees and involves completing our environmental health questionnaire to assist in identifying potential pollutants in your home or office.
Investigation: This involves a visual and comprehensive inspection of a property to identify potential problem areas with probable sources of pollutants that may cause health related problems.
Infrared Thermal Imaging: Leaking, windows, plumbing leaks, and water intrusion issues hidden inside wall or ceilings cavities can be located by non-intrusive and non-destructive means.
Testing: Referred to as a Pre-Inspection, this is where airborne and surface samples are collected and sent to an accredited laboratory for testing.
Evaluate: Here we proceed to analyze the information we’ve gathered as well as the laboratory results for verification and identification of possible mold spores, chemicals, bacteria or other contaminants.
Report: A comprehensive report is prepared detailing our findings and including our recommendations on a course of action to improve the indoor air quality of your home or workplace. Protocols are written for the Professional Remediator to return the property to a healthy state.
Consult: We can oversee the remediation process to ensure it is being correctly remediated. Another service to reassure the remediation process runs smooth.
Post Inspection / PRV: A final retesting is required to ensure that your Indoor Air Quality is as good as or better than the outside air. This is often referred to as post remediation verification (PVR) providing final clearance on the remediation.
The principal methods of improving your indoor air quality often involve controlling the source(s) of the contaminants, improving the air filtration and diluting the contaminants of the air using ventilation.
